Cab Styles and Bed Lengths
XtraCab or Double Cab
Every 2026 Tacoma is built as either an XtraCab or a Double Cab.
The XtraCab is a two-door, two-seat body. Instead of a second row, it uses the space behind the seats for storage. It pairs exclusively with the six-foot bed. For a work truck, a fleet vehicle, or a solo-driver build, this is the configuration that trades rear seating for cargo length.
The Double Cab is a four-door, five-passenger body with a full rear bench. It is also the only cab offered with a choice of bed lengths. If passengers ride along regularly, this is the body to specify.
Bed Length by Cab
The Tacoma offers a five-foot bed and a six-foot bed. Which one you can order depends on the cab and the trim.
XtraCab models come with the six-foot bed. Double Cab models default to the five-foot bed. The longer bed is optional on four Double Cab trims and adds $500 where it is offered.
Bed length also shifts the truck’s footprint. Most Tacomas measure 213 inches long on a 131.9-inch wheelbase. Trailhunter and TRD Pro stretch to 214.2 inches.

Rear-Wheel Drive or Part-Time 4WD
This choice has the largest effect on both capability and price. It is also the one most often described incorrectly. No 2026 Tacoma is an all-wheel-drive vehicle.
How the Two Systems Differ
Rear-wheel drive is standard on the SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner and TRD Sport. These trucks use an electronic limited-slip differential. It pulses the brake at a slipping wheel to route torque to the wheel with grip.
Four-wheel drive is a part-time system. A two-speed transfer case provides 4H and 4L ranges, and it mechanically locks the front and rear driveshafts together at speeds below 50 mph. Because it locks rather than differentiates, you engage it when the surface calls for it. It is not meant to stay on for dry-pavement driving. Four trims add an electronically controlled locking rear differential: TRD PreRunner, TRD Off-Road, Trailhunter and TRD Pro.
One grade works differently from the rest. Full-time 4WD is offered on the Limited. It replaces the part-time transfer case with an electronic locking center differential, so it can stay engaged on any surface rather than being switched in and out. If you want four-wheel drive you never have to think about, that is where to look.

Rear Suspension: Leaf or Coil
Cab and trim also determine what sits under the back of the truck. Three variants use a leaf-spring rear axle: the SR, the SR5 XtraCab, and the TRD PreRunner. Every other Tacoma uses a coil-spring rear axle, which is the smoother of the two on pavement.

Every 2026 Tacoma runs a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. What changes is whether it works alone and what it is bolted to.

The Six-Speed Manual
Most Tacomas ship with the eight-speed automatic. A six-speed manual is offered on three four-wheel-drive Double Cab configurations: SR, TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road. It is not available with the hybrid powertrain.
The manual is a no-cost option. Each manual configuration carries the same starting TSRP as its automatic counterpart. It does change the engine’s tune, as the output table above shows.
The i-FORCE MAX Hybrid
The i-FORCE MAX adds an electric motor to the same 2.4-liter turbo. Torque climbs from 317 lb-ft to 465 lb-ft, an increase of 148 lb-ft delivered low in the rev range.
